World’s First! Achieved Mass Production of Spirulina Under Controlled Cultivation<\/h3>\n

DIC (formerly Dai Nippon Ink and Chemicals), founded in 1908 manufacturing and selling printing inks. In 1970, the company began research into mass-producing Spirulina. By 1977, it had achieved a world first: the mass production of Spirulina under controlled cultivation. As a pioneer in the Spirulina industry, we have been conducting research for over 55 years.\n <\/p>\n

Spirulina is discovered and named by German algae scholar Dr. Turpin<\/dd>\n <\/div>\n

1962<\/dt>\n
Attracted by its wealth of nutrients, a researcher in 21st century protein sources at the French Institute of Petroleum named Dr Clement, collects samples of Spirulina from Lake Chad to study as a protein source<\/dd>\n <\/div>\n

Investigation into the nutritional value of Spirulina begins in earnest<\/dd>\n <\/div>\n

1967<\/dt>\n
Dr. Clement presents Spirulina to the world at the International Congress of Microbiology held in Mexico. At a meeting of the International Association of Applied Microbiology held in Ethiopia in the same year, Spirulina is introduced as a future food source that should be considered because of its high protein content, drawing the attention of researchers and prompting the UN to evaluate the nutritional value of Spirulina<\/dd>\n <\/div>\n

\n DIC Corporation (formerly Dainippon Ink and Chemicals) commenced research into the mass production of Spirulina in 1970. In 1977, DIC built the world\u2019s first production facility in Thailand, then another in the U.S. in 1981 and subsequently in Hainan Island, China.
